Ever since a young age, I have been intrigued by the art world. This passion continued to grow as I took over my dads dining room and renamed it “Kelli’s Art Studio”. Having a safe space like that where I could freely create became an outlet for me when I struggled in other areas of my life. During high school, I was inspired by my ceramics teacher to begin thinking of art as a lifelong career. After my first year and a half of college, I finally declared my major in art education. However, in the time I spent undeclared, I took enough anthropology classes to fulfill a minor. I was curious to know about other cultures and societies different from my own. This interest in humans began to reflect in my art when I started consistently making ceramic busts. They weren’t always proportionally correct, but when I got my hands on wet clay, they just seemed to appear in front of me. I have had various studio classes, but ceramics is one that holds a special place in my heart. Now as I finish my degree in art education, I am eager to share my passion with students and create that safe space I was so familiar with for all of the students who enter my classroom.
